Assis is generally regarded as the birthplace St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order in the town in 1208, and St. Clare (Chiara d'Offreducci), the founder of the Poor Sisters, which later became the Order of Poor Clares after her death.

It is a typical Middle Age city with a lot of old buildings an a lot of churches. The main attractions are the Basilica di San Francesco d'Assisi and the Basilica di Sanata Chiara.

Travel Information
We went here by our own car. There a parking facilities at the bottom of the hill with escalators to go up to the city. But be aware that you have to walk a lot through steep cubblestone streets so you should have no troubles with your legs ....
