I saw this spot some time ago on Locationscout but it seems to have disappeared. The chains make a cool lead in line and the sun setting behind the city illuminates the sky very beautifully. During a recent trip to Boston, I made sure to snap a photo from this spot.

Photography Tips

Photographing this was fairly simple - You just need a tripod. A CPL filter may be helpful as well, however, the lens I used was not capable of attaching any filter (Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6).

I created This HDR photo with the program "easyHDR." Three bracketed shots were taken. Below are the specs of the nominally exposed photo:
Shutter Speed: 1.6 secs
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 16mm (Nikon crop sensor, so ~24mm full frame)

There were a lot of photographers taking shots of the city. Some had normal zoom lenses, others had telephoto lenses, etc. As I mentioned above, this photo had once appeared on Locationscout and I wanted to duplicate it for myself because the perspective was unique. To achieve this a wide-angle lens is required. I rented a Sigma 8-16mm lens (and liked it).

You will need a fairly wide-angle lens to get as much of the city in the frame as possible.

Travel Information

This spot is extremely easy to access. If you're staying in the Boston area just walk to Fan Pier Park. If you don't want to walk you can take an Uber / Lyft. The walkway wraps around the water's edge.

After you've finished photographing the city you MUST eat at the Barking Crab. It's also on the water's edge next to Fan Pier Park. The seafood is AMAZING and the atmosphere is extremely fun.
