Algeria Colorful facades in Bordj-el-Kiffane, Algeria
A lively streetscape in Bordj El Kiffan (Bordj El Kiffane), Algeria, was captured, where low two-storey façades had been painted in bold tropical hues—turmeric yellow, teal, aqua and royal blue—trimmed with tomato-red bands, wrought-iron Juliet balconies and ranks of boxy air-conditioners; at street level a fried-chicken shop sign in Arabic and Latin script had been mounted beneath festoon lights, while pedestrians, including women in hijab, were seen moving along a tram-lined pavement under a hard midday sky; from the junction, palm trees, patched asphalt, scooters and cars had been threaded between slim lamp posts and a cool-blue hotel block, opposite a rounded, 1930s-style corner building with sweeping balcony bands; farther along the terrace, shutters, satellite dishes and small floral balconies had been set over fashion and electronics shops shaded by tightly pruned street trees, with decorative paving panels and tram tracks stretching through the bright Mediterranean light.
