Algeria Roman ruins of Tipaza
The Roman ruins of Tipaza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, revealed the grandeur of a coastal city that flourished between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. Founded as a Punic trading post and later developed under Roman rule, Tipaza grew into a prosperous settlement blending Roman urban planning with local traditions. Its remains included a theatre, amphitheatre, forum, basilicas, baths, temples, and an extensive necropolis, all framed by the Mediterranean. The city’s strategic location made it a crossroads of commerce and culture, while its monuments reflected the spread of Roman civilisation along the North African coast. Today, the ruins stood as enduring witnesses to the dialogue between Rome and the indigenous Berber world.
