This location is very popular with Australian landscape photographers. Even on a deceptively calm day the waves are usually thumping into the basalt columns that line the shoreline. I have visited this spot three times and never seen anyone else there. A very eerie place in the pre-dawn darkness.

Photography Tips

Best times to photograph Bombo is either sunrise or sunset. A sunrise shoot means you have to wander down a meandering dirt road but I found a track that ended in some old concrete steps which saved a few minutes' walk. Definitely take a torch.

Once you get to "ground zero" be careful not to twist your ankle on the countless boulders you'll have to negotiate to get to the ideal spots.

Travel Information

Kiama is 42 km south of Wollongong and 44 km north of Nowra. Driving will definitely get you the closest to Bombo otherwise it's about a 1.5 km walk from Bombo railway station.
