he Bourke Water Tower Art was painted by John Murray in April 2021, with assistance from Bob Barrett and Lucas Kasper. Theartwork serves as a tribute toathlete Percy Hobson.

In 1962, Gundabooka man Percy Hobson made history by becoming the first Indigenous athlete to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games. At just 20 years old, and against all odds, this local high jumper broke the record when he leapt over a 6’11” high bar at Perth’s Perry Lakes Stadium. This remarkable achievement forever established Percy as one of Australia’s most iconic athletes.
