Australia Peace Park
Peace Park is a small neighbourhood park in Spearwood. Its purpose is to commemorate the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and is a place for reflection and quiet contemplation.
In 1986, the City opened Peace Park with the Vice Consul for Japan, Mr T. Otani, performing a commemorative tree-planting ceremony. The City continues this tradition through its yearly Hiroshima Day tree-planting event at different Cockburn parks. The ceremony symbolises peace, unity and friendship.
Mature pine trees give Peace Park a forest-like appearance. Black Cockatoos are known to feed at the park, so improving tree health and supporting a favourable feeding habitat.
