This high-level water reservoir can be found in the mountains around Zell am See-Kaprun. From the dam itself, you can find multiple hiking routes or go for a walk and have lunch in the nearby restaurant.

Photography Tips

An overcast day is probably the best for soft light and to avoid harsh light and shadows. If you come on a sunny day, the watercolor will be much more intense. Some lower clouds might be nice to create some mood, but they could cover up the mountains. You can check different webcams before getting up here.

Travel Information

You must take two buses and a lift to get to the upper reservoir. Parking at the station is free of charge. Be aware of the operation hours (no operation in winter at all). You could hike up, but it will be long and steep. In winter, don't try to hike up by yourself because of the danger of avalanches.
