Austria Old fire station
At the confluence of the Elexenbach and Braunaubach streams, there had been a mill since the 16th century, which was converted into a mirror grinding workshop around 1800 and operated as the k.k. priv. Spinnfabrik Isnenghi & Zanetti spinning mill in 1823. In 1854, it was acquired, together with a farmyard and an inn, by Eugen Richter, who already operated a glass grinding workshop in Hohenau. However, as the building of the mill, which had been converted into a spinning mill, was difficult to adapt to the needs of a glass grinding workshop, Richter built a new factory building on the Braunaubach, which was to become the core of the Backhausen manufactory.
