Belgium Stair to ...
Vlooybergtoren - Piece af art in the hills of Flanders.
The Vlooybergtoren, located in Tielt-Winge, Belgium, is a striking and unconventional lookout tower that has become a local landmark and architectural curiosity. Built in 2015 by the Belgian firm Close to Bone, the Vlooybergtoren replaces a former wooden tower that was destroyed by arson.
It is often called the “stairway to heaven” or “stairway to nowhere” due to its dramatic, cantilevered design that appears to defy gravity.
The tower is 11.28 meters tall, with the top platform reaching 10.08 meters above the ground and extending over 20 meters in length.
It is made entirely of weathering steel, chosen for its durability and its rusty hue that echoes the local ironstone of the Hageland region.
