Belgium Tivoli Castle

Corneille Scheppers, a rich brewer in Mechelen, built his "country house" in 1802 on agricultural land. He gave the whole domain the name "Tivoli", after the Italian city that he visited in 1792. In 1841 he passed this country house, the castle Tivoli, to his son Monsignor Scheppers. In a part of the castle, priest Scheppers taught local children to read and write. When he died, the castle was sold in order to pay the inheritance costs. The new owner was also a well-to-do brewer in Mechelen.
In 1922 the castle was extended.

The city of Mechelen bought the castle domain in 1978.

Tivoli Castle was protected as a monument in 1996.
The castle is used as a venue for meetings and parties and contains a restaurant.
