Wim Delvoye's Caterpillar has been on the Middelkerkse seawall since 2003. However, the copy that is on display now is not the original. That original work moved to Ground Zero in New York that same year. The current Caterpillar has been there since 2004 and received a spectacular expansion in May 2019 with the accompanying Flatbed Trailer semi-trailer.

Together they create a new, impressive work of art 21 meters long. Caterpillar + Flatbed Trailer belongs to Delvoye's 2002 Caterpillar series. With this collection of remarkable construction machines, he forges a timeless melting point between the past and the present. In this work, the crawler tractor symbolizes modern times and the decorative patterns of a Gothic church symbolize the medieval world.
