Mirante de Albertina is a scenic viewpoint located near the town of Albertina, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Set at a higher elevation, the spot offers wide, unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside, rolling hills, and distant towns. At night, the area transforms into an excellent location for astrophotography and night landscape photography, with expansive skies and strong foreground elements such as trees, rocks, rural paths, and landmarks.

The combination of altitude, open horizons, and relatively low light pollution makes Mirante de Albertina a rewarding destination for photographers who enjoy capturing star-filled skies and atmospheric night scenes. It’s a peaceful place to slow down, observe the night, and experience the contrast between the quiet land below and the vast sky above.

Photography Tips

A tripod is essential, as long exposure times are required for night and astrophotography. Use a wide-angle lens with a fast aperture (f/2.8 or wider if possible) to capture more of the sky. Start with ISO settings between 1600 and 3200 and exposure times around 10–20 seconds, adjusting based on sky brightness and star movement.

Pay attention to foreground elements such as trees, fences, rocks, or paths to add depth and scale to your composition. Turn off autofocus and focus manually on a bright star or a distant light source. Visiting during a new moon or moonless nights will help reduce sky brightness and reveal more stars.

Travel Information

Mirante de Albertina is accessible by car and is located a short drive from the town of Albertina, Minas Gerais. The final approach may include rural or unpaved roads, so drive carefully, especially at night. Parking is usually available nearby, either along the roadside or in small open areas close to the viewpoint.

Because the location is elevated and exposed, it’s recommended to bring warm clothing, a flashlight or headlamp, and to visit with awareness of weather conditions. Always respect the area, avoid disturbing the surroundings, and be mindful of safety when moving around in low light.
