Cuba Laguna del Tesoro

The Laguna del Tesoro (= lagoon of treasure) is located just in the heart of the Zapata Swamp, a huge wilderness area in southwestern Cuba. The swamp is a UNESCO Heritage Site and a national park. One of the few non-adventurous way to stay in the swamp is the Laguna del Tesoro with the Hotel Guamá. It offers the unique opportunity to stay in the area for bird watching and nature photography. The hotel offers boat trips to the best spots.

Photography Tips

Take your time and adapt to the Cuban way of life - if you are in a hurry to see "all" of Cuba, the quietness and tranquility of this place may be the wrong thing. But with at least some days in the lagoon you will find a lot of awesome images and more. Both wide angle and tele photo lenses are recommended.

Travel Information

The lagoon and the Hotel Guamá can only be reached by boat. There is plenty of parking near the crocodile farm at the main road. The boats leave just a few meters from here.
