In the mid-16th century, the original Gothic fortress was rebuilt by the Krajíři family of Krajk into a Renaissance chateau. A trapezoidal courtyard with two-story arcades was created, as well as an eastern arcaded courtyard, which was accessed through a gate with a tower.
In 1628, Jakub of Berchtold became the owner. After 1670, Baroque modifications to the interiors were gradually carried out, consisting of rich stucco decorations. Further modifications to the interiors took place in the 19th century in the spirit of Classicism.
Adjacent to the castle is a former Baroque garden and an extensive forest park.
Due to its proximity to the Austrian border, this castle gradually fell into disrepair and only underwent repairs and renovations after the 1989 revolution.
