Czech Republic Hradčany – Street below the Castle toward Strahov Monastery
This well-known viewpoint near Prague Castle is usually photographed in the direction of the city panorama. However, turning away from the Castle toward Strahov Monastery reveals a calmer and often less crowded composition.
The descending street creates strong leading lines, guiding the eye through layered rooftops toward the illuminated monastery complex in the distance. The space opens differently here, offering a more intimate perspective compared to the classic panoramic view.
Winter conditions work especially well, when fewer visitors are present and snow simplifies the scene, emphasizing structure and rhythm.

Photography Tips
Sunrise is ideal when the first rays illuminate the facades while the lower parts of the street remain in shadow. This natural contrast adds depth and dimension to the image.
Blue hour is a reliable alternative. Street lamps and illuminated windows introduce warm tones that contrast beautifully with cooler ambient light. Slight moisture in the air or light fog enhances the atmosphere and reflections on the cobblestones.
Both wide-angle and longer focal lengths work here. A wider lens emphasizes perspective and leading lines, while a longer focal length compresses the scene and simplifies the composition.
