Denmark Aerial view of Marstal beach houses, Aerø, Denmark
At the edge of Marstal Beach on the island of Ærø, a row of small, colorful beach houses stretches along a narrow sandbar, surrounded by calm Baltic waters. Each house is painted in its own vibrant hue — red, green, yellow, and blue — standing out beautifully against the soft tones of the sea and sky. The place feels timeless, a quiet symbol of Danish island life where simplicity and beauty meet. When the sun rises, the first light spills over the water, illuminating the little houses one by one and creating a truly magical scene.
Photography Tips
This location is perfect for drone photography, but it’s important to note that the beach lies within a protected nature zone. To comply with regulations, the drone must remain above the parking lot and not fly over the water or nature area. The airspace here is also restricted to a maximum height of 30 meters, which still provides an excellent vantage point for capturing the line of colorful houses surrounded by shimmering water. The early morning light works best, especially around sunrise when the colors are soft and the reflections gentle. If you’re shooting from the ground, a telephoto lens helps compress the perspective and highlight the charm of the houses against the sea.
Travel Information
Marstal Beach is located just outside the town of Marstal, one of the most picturesque and relaxed places on Ærø. You can park at the small lot right next to the beach, which also serves as the designated drone takeoff area. From there, it’s just a short walk to the shoreline. The beach houses are private, but they can be admired freely from a respectful distance. Marstal itself is easily accessible by car or bike once you’re on the island, and the town’s cozy harbor and maritime museum are worth a visit as well. Whether you come for photography or simply to enjoy the calm morning light, this spot perfectly captures the peaceful charm of island life on Ærø.
