575 steps lead up through the forest to the top of Ukko-Luosto. The climb is worth it for the wide views across the endless forests and rolling landscapes of Finnish Lapland, especially when the autumn colours are at their peak.

Photography Tips

Use a telezoom lens to compromise the framing and get the lake in a close distance for your image. Wait for the good afternoon light. In Autumn the colors are glowing even more.

Travel Information

To reach the Ukko-Luosto stairs, start at Luostonportti, at the corner of the Luosto ski-area parking lot near Santa’s Hotel Aurora. From there, follow the marked hiking trail through the forest toward Ukko-Luosto. The trail leads directly to the foot of the 575 stairs, which take you up to the summit and viewing platform.
