Finland Savonlinna blue hour, Finland
Savonlinna is a charming lakeside town in southeastern Finland, surrounded by the beautiful waters of Lake Saimaa. Known for its historic Olavinlinna Castle, numerous islands, and scenic waterfront, the town offers fantastic opportunities for urban and landscape photography.
During blue hour, Savonlinna becomes particularly photogenic as the warm streetlights illuminate the town while the surrounding lakes reflect the deep blue evening sky. From above, the colorful city lights, small marinas, bridges, and forested islands create a beautiful contrast between urban life and Finland's natural landscape.

Photography Tips
A drone is an excellent choice for capturing Savonlinna during blue hour. For this shot, I positioned my drone above the waterfront, looking toward the illuminated town center, with Lake Saimaa and its islands stretching into the background.
The best time is shortly after sunset, when the sky still holds its deep blue while the streetlights are already on. This creates a beautiful balance between natural and artificial light.
Use a relatively slow shutter speed and a low ISO to preserve image quality, as long as wind conditions allow. Experiment with different altitudes to include the waterfront, illuminated streets, and surrounding lakes in your composition.

Travel Information
Savonlinna is located in southeastern Finland, approximately 330 kilometers northeast of Helsinki. The town is easily accessible by car and makes an excellent stop on a road trip through Finland's Lakeland region.
The city center is surrounded by water, with several bridges connecting its different islands. Besides the waterfront, the famous Olavinlinna Castle and nearby harbor are particularly worth exploring for photography.
Savonlinna is beautiful year-round, but late spring through autumn offers especially attractive conditions. In September, sunset occurs relatively early, making it easy to combine blue hour photography with an evening walk through the town.
