Le tunnel du Malpas (Nissan-lez-Ensérune)
Réalisée en un an, la percée de Malpas ( le ‘mauvais pas’) est un des tours de force d’ingénierie imaginés par Paul Riquet, et le symbole de son obstination. Au pied de la colline d’Ensérune, il perça dans une roche friable un tunnel fluvial, long de 173 m, haut de 8,5 m et large de 6 m, qui évitait un long détour. Riquet le réalisa malgré le veto de Colbert.
