France Phare du Cap Gris-Nez

The Cap Gris-Nez lighthouse, located near the town of Audinghen in the Pas-de-Calais region of northern France, is a prominent maritime landmark with a rich historical background.

Cap Gris-Nez is the closest point in France to England, just 34 km across the English Channel.
The lighthouse stands on the Côte d'Opale, a scenic stretch of coastline known for its cliffs and natural beauty. It plays a vital role in maritime navigation, guiding over 500 ships daily through the busy Dover Strait.

The first lighthouse was built in 1861 and later electrified in 1869. In 1944 the original structure was destroyed by German forces. The current cylindrical concrete lighthouse was constructed on the ruins of the original. Today it is listed as a historic monument, recognized for its cultural and strategic importance.

Height: 31 meters (102 feet).
Elevation: Stands 72 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the Channel.
Includes a radar station to assist with modern navigation.

There is a free car park just 100 meters from the lighthouse, near the Musée du Mur de l’Atlantique (Todt Battery)

The lighthouse itself is not open to the public, but the surrounding area offers spectacular views, especially at sunset.
