France Ruins of burons
A buron is a stone building, roofed with slate or stone tiles, found in the “mountains”—high-altitude pastures owned and used seasonally by valley farmers in the Cantal, Aubrac, Cézallier, Margeride, and Mont Dore mountain ranges. Many have been converted into restaurants today and welcome hikers and tourists, but others are still inhabited. This set is ruins from old farmhouses.
Photography Tips
Aim for golden hour, especially sunrise, to get a beautiful light on the burons. Snow makes it magical in winter but if it snowed heavily in the previous days, the ruins can be fully covered. You barely see them from the road but with the drone you can see it easily.
Travel Information
Follow the parking spot GPS. You don't need a 4x4 to drive around the Aubrac region, most of the roads are paved and well-maintained. You need snow tires in winter to drive there.
