France Phare de Chassirom
The Chassiron Lighthouse, perched on a rocky cliff, is situated at the northern tip of the Île d'Oléron, near the town of Saint-Denis-d'Oléron. The lighthouse guides sailors into the waters of the Pertuis d’Antioche, an area strewn with reefs and notorious for its many shipwrecks. It is the oldest lighthouse in France still in operation, after those at Cordouan and Stiff.
The Chassiron lighthouse and its outbuildings were listed as historic monuments by decree on 23 October 2012.
