France Fishing village
Located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Canet-en-Roussillon lagoon, the Fishermen’s Village exudes an authentic, unspoiled charm. Ten wooden huts, known as “cannes de Provence” and “sanils”, stand proudly along the lagoon, bearing witness to the region’s maritime past.
Once fishermen’s homes, these huts were renovated in 1993 and now serve as storage spaces for fishing gear. Although fishermen no longer use them as residences, they remain symbols of lakeside life. The site is still home to a few fishermen who hunt for eels and sea bass. Recently, the blue crab has made an appearance, disrupting the lagoon’s ecosystem. The fishermen are working to reduce its population in the pond by fishing for it on a large scale.
