France Najac Castle
The Château de Najac is a remarkable medieval fortress perched high above the Aveyron Valley in southern France. Built in the 13th century on the orders of Alphonse de Poitiers, it occupies a strategic rocky ridge that once controlled important regional routes. Known for its impressive defensive architecture, including an imposing keep and unusually tall arrow slits, the castle played a significant role during events such as the Hundred Years’ War. Today, it stands as one of the best-preserved medieval fortresses in the Occitanie region and offers visitors spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
Photography Tips
Check local drone regulations first. You might need to obtain a permit from the local authorities. Cloud inversions aren't rare in the area, so check out in advance if they will happen. If yes, the golden light will be amazing to enhance the castle and the cloud sea!
Travel Information
The castle is accessible via the D39 road and is about 1.5 hours from Toulouse, 1 hour from Rodez, and 2.5 hours from Montpellier. You can park where the GPS pin is, but be careful that it is not " jour du marche" which designs a market morning (and you would have to move your car)
