France Hospices de Beaune
The Hospices de Beaune, also known as the Hôtel-Dieu, is one of France’s most famous historic landmarks. Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin and his wife Guigone de Salins, it was established as a charitable hospital for the poor after the devastation of war and plague. Renowned for its striking Gothic architecture and colorful glazed-tile roofs, the building is a masterpiece of medieval Burgundy. Today, it serves as a museum showcasing its rich history, medical heritage, and remarkable art collection, including the famous altarpiece The Last Judgment.
