Georgia Khabelashvilebi bridge, Georgia

Khabelashvilebi Bridge is one of the most atmospheric historic landmarks in the mountains of Adjara. The traditional covered wooden bridge spans a fast-flowing mountain river and is almost surrounded by dense, lush forest. Its weathered timber construction, moss-covered rocks, and remote setting make the entire scene feel like something from another time. It would be the perfect location for a fairy-tale movie!

The riverbank below the bridge offers one of the strongest compositions, letting you combine the wooden structure with the turquoise water, large rocks, and surrounding forest. A wide-angle lens works particularly well here. Overcast conditions are ideal, as the soft light helps balance the bright water and dark forest. A polarizing filter can reduce reflections and intensify the greens, while a tripod and slower shutter speed can soften the flowing water. I took this photo with my camera and drone. With the drone, you can vary the height a little better. It's a little climb to get to the riverbank, especially on the right side, but it's worth it!

Khabelashvilebi Bridge is located in the mountainous interior of Adjara. It is best visited as part of a road trip from Batumi towards the region’s more remote villages and mountain landscapes. The final approach takes you off the main roads, so allow extra driving time and expect changing road conditions. Once there, explore both sides of the river and the area beneath the bridge, as the best photographic perspective is not necessarily from the bridge itself. What I also really loved is the well-maintained trail from the village to the bridge, with small lanterns.
