Georgia Top of Batumi, Georgia
The viewpoint at the upper station of the Argo Cable Car offers one of the best panoramas over modern Batumi. Looking back towards the Black Sea, the city’s dense urban landscape and distinctive high-rise architecture stretch all the way to the coastline. Around sunset, the combination of modern towers, city lights, and the open horizon creates a completely different perspective on Batumi than the historic Old Town.
Photography Tips
Bring a telephoto lens for this viewpoint. The elevated position allows you to isolate individual skyscrapers and compress the dense layers of Batumi against the Black Sea. Sunset is particularly rewarding, as the sun disappears directly over the water and can create dramatic light behind the skyline. Stay into blue hour as well, when illuminated buildings begin to stand out against the darker city. Longer focal lengths are also perfect for finding smaller abstract compositions within the urban landscape.
Travel Information
The easiest and most enjoyable way to reach the viewpoint is via the Argo Cable Car from central Batumi. The cable car itself is part of the experience, covering more than two kilometers as it climbs from the city towards the mountain above Batumi. The upper station has panoramic viewing areas overlooking both the city and the Black Sea. The cable car usually operates well into the evening, making sunset and blue-hour photography particularly convenient, but check the current operating hours before your visit.
