Germany Burchardkai, Hamburg

In 1968 the age of standardized steel containers in Europe started at the Hamburg terminal Burchardkai. Since then it was continuously improved and kept up to date so that today even the world’s biggest container vessels can be unloaded by the 30 container bridges. It is the biggest Terminal of Hamburg harbor and nearly always monumental container ships can be seen there.

Photography Tips

The entrance to the harbour area is interdicted and options to take photos to my impression are few in this area but they offer official bus tours through the harbour, as I understood with the option of taking photos: http://www.jasper.de/sightseeing-touren/hafentour.
Standing where I stood you then have in your back the also famous and impressive Köhlbrand-bridge
Here you can find which ships are in the harbour in real-time (German only):

Best to go in your vehicle. The parking situation is a little bit difficult, but I have always found one.

Actually, this image shows the Eurokai, opposit of the Burchardkai, both at the port basin Waltershofer Hafen. For many more images of this spectecular part of the port of Hamburg (where I worked for several years), see my photo website: https://www.reinhardprinzmeier.de/portfolio/container-terminal/

Actually, "Buchardkai" is just the name given to this spot on locationscout.net. All the images listed in this spot are possible to take from the location marked on the map, in fact, 7 out of 9 show the Buchardkai as well as the Eurokai. Sorry, I can't help but to think that there must be some better place to promote your private website than a comment like this.

@Reinhard: Which image do you exactly mean? There is a comment function for each image (left to the like button) which makes it easier to talk about a specific photo. I've not been there yet so I am not sure if we need a separate spot for this specific photo you are writing about or not.

Well, I apologise, I did not want to offend anybody. I saw only one photo of the collection. The port basin in front is the Waltershofer Hafen. From this location to the right is the quay Burchardkai and the container terminal Burchardkai. To the left is the quai Predöhlkai and the container terminal Eurokai.

No worries, it's definitely a good thing to check the quality of each spot and make changes if they make sense. Just wanted to let you know that you are currently commenting the entire spot which has a lot of photos in it, so I wasn't sure which one we are talking about... ;-)

At the moment there are huge construction works going on at this spot, preventing any possibility to take pictures. It is unclear if it will be possible to take pictures again from this spot.

Construction works are mostly finished, and it seems that taking pictures from this spot will be possible again in the near future.
