Germany Harburg Castle
Harburg Castle, perched above the town of Harburg in Bavaria, is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in southern Germany. Dating back to the 12th century, it was originally a Staufer imperial castle. In 1299, it was pledged to the Counts of Oettingen, who expanded it into a formidable fortress. The castle complex includes a chapel, residential buildings, defensive walls, and towers, showcasing a blend of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural styles. Today, it is owned by the Prince of Oettingen-Wallerstein Cultural Foundation and offers guided tours from mid-March to early November.
