The Friedwald is an alternative burial method that has become increasingly popular recently. Instead of a conventional burial, a completely biodegradable urn containing the ashes of the deceased is buried at the root of a tree, thus nourishing the tree. The forest stands reserved for this purpose are left as far as possible in their natural state.
