Germany Metilstein
Metilstein is one of the most beautiful viewpoints overlooking Wartburg Castle near Eisenach in Thuringia. From this rocky outcrop, visitors can enjoy an unobstructed view of the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by the rolling hills and dense forests of the Thuringian Forest.
The viewpoint is particularly photogenic, with a wooden bench on a rocky plateau and Wartburg Castle rising above the forest in the background. The surrounding trees provide natural framing, making this an excellent location for both landscape and architectural photography.
Autumn is especially beautiful when the forests turn golden, and the entire landscape becomes a colorful mixture of yellow, orange, and green.

Photography Tips
Early morning and golden hour are excellent times to photograph Wartburg Castle from Metilstein, as the warm sunlight beautifully illuminates the castle and surrounding landscape.
For a composition similar to this photograph, a wide-angle lens works particularly well to include the rocky foreground, wooden bench, and trees framing the castle. A telephoto lens is another great option for isolating Wartburg Castle and emphasizing its position above the surrounding forest.
Autumn mornings with high humidity and low temperatures are particularly promising for atmospheric photographs. Under the right conditions, fog can form in the valleys and forests, creating beautiful layers around the castle. Arriving around sunrise offers the best opportunity to capture these conditions.
Blue hour is another highly recommended time to visit. Once Wartburg Castle is illuminated, the warm lights of the historic buildings create a beautiful contrast against the deep blue evening sky. A tripod is useful for longer exposures.
