One of the best spots to watch the sunrise over the Palatinate Forest is castle Wegelnburg. The view over the foggy hills in autumn is magnificent.

Photography Tips

Get there in late August or September for sunrise because fog is very likely at this time. Try to be on site 30 minutes before sunrise.

Travel Information

I usual park near Château Fort de Fleckenstein in France , which is also an old castle. Then walk up the hill to castle Hohenburg. The next ruin on your way is castle Wegelnburg. The walk talkes about 40 minutes.

I love this picture. In the autumn I will try my luck. Thank you. Can it be that the icons for the position and direction of the picture are dipped? According to your description, you stood at the ruin Wegelnburg and shot the photo towards Burg Falkenstein. In this case you must change the icons. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your comment! I stood on the ruin and looked to east to photography the sunrise. I put the icon of the image a bit more to east.

I changed the position of the icon. I hope it fits your pictures. In my picture it fits and the others are taken at more or less the same place I think.
