Burg Prunn is a well-preserved medieval castle perched on a steep limestone cliff above the Altmühl River near Riedenburg, Bavaria. Built in the 13th century, it is famous for housing the Prunner Codex, a medieval manuscript of the Nibelungenlied. The castle is a popular spot for hikers and offers guided tours.

Travel Information

Burg Prunn can be reached by car in about 6 hours from Dortmund via the A2 and A9 highways, with free parking near the castle. By train, take a route to Saal (Donau), then a bus and a 20-minute walk to the castle, totaling around 6–7 hours. Public transport schedules may vary, so check before you travel.
