Germany Eibsee Hinkelstein

The iconic Hinkelstein at Eibsee sits just off the lake’s edge, surrounded by emerald waters and backed by the towering Zugspitze. This massive boulder becomes even more photogenic when a person stands on top, adding scale and a sense of adventure. In spring and summer, wildflowers bloom along the shoreline, offering a colorful and dreamy foreground.

Position yourself low to include wildflowers in the foreground, the person on the rock as the focal point, and the mountains in the background. Use a wide-angle lens for depth and a large aperture (like f/2.8–f/4) to create separation between flowers and the distant scene. Early morning or late afternoon gives you the best light and calm water for reflections.

The Eibsee is easily accessible by car with several parking areas. The Hinkelstein is just a short walk from the main path around the lake. To get someone on the rock, ensure they wear good shoes and take care when climbing, especially if it’s wet. Weekdays or early mornings are best to avoid crowds.
