Germany Mitoraj Skulptur in Bamberg
On the east side of the Lower Bridge, above the *Kranen* – the former commercial harbor and fish market – stands the sculpture *Centurione I* by contemporary artist Igor Mitoraj, funded by citizen donations. Set against the backdrop of the Old Town Hall on the bridge, the former fishermen’s settlement “Little Venice,” the *Leinritt* on the western riverbank, and Michaelsberg, it creates a particularly striking contrast. The artist’s heads, torsos, and figures are rooted in the classical beauty of antiquity, yet they deliberately set themselves apart through intentional injuries and damage.
