Germany Kelchsteine
The Zittau Mountains, in the extreme south-east of Saxony, are the smallest mountain range in Germany. Its highest elevation is less than 800 metres, but the landscape is indeed mountainous, with steep inclines and declines in the roads. Sandstone cliff areas are typical here. A few kilometres from the village of Oybin are the Goblet Stones (Kelchsteine). The Goblet stone (Kelchstein) and the Goblet stone guardian (Kelchsteinwächter) next to it are made of chalk sandstone, a high iron oxide content makes the rock pink to deep red in colour.
The whole area is a popular climbing spot.
