Germany Zwillbrocker Venn, Münsterland

The Zwillbrocker Venn is one of the most unique wetland reserves in the Münsterland region, famous for its large lake, wooden boardwalks, peat landscapes, and the northernmost wild flamingo colony in Europe. Especially during sunrise, foggy mornings, or calm evenings, the reflections on the water and the quiet moor atmosphere create incredible opportunities for wildlife and landscape photography.

A beautiful composition with good sunlight can be created by positioning yourself near the trees or wooden fences along the paths and letting the rising sun shine through branches.

As well early mornings with low fog over the water are especially rewarding, while longer focal lengths work perfectly for capturing flamingos and birdlife from the observation points.

You can reach the reserve easily by car via Vreden and Zwillbrock near the Dutch border, with parking areas directly next to the nature reserve and visitor center. Well-maintained walking and cycling trails lead around the lake and through the wetlands, making it perfect for a relaxed nature trip from Münster, Enschede, or the Ruhr area.
