The gate to the former Burtscheid Abbey was built in 1644 under Abbess Henrietta (Henrica) Raitz von Frentz, whose coat-of-arms stone, bearing the date 1644, is set above the gate passage. The gate is one of the few remaining examples in Aachen of the Meuse Renaissance architectural style
