Germany Grunthalplatz, Schwerin

Right in front of the main station of Schwerin, Grunthalplatz connects the historic atmosphere of the city with the movement of everyday life. Surrounded by classic architecture, trams, and wide open space, it feels like the gateway into Schwerin’s old town and lake district.

Specially it is beautiful during golden hour when the light reflects softly across the square.

Early morning or sunset works best to capture the warm light between the station facade and the urban lines of the square. A wide-angle lens helps to include the architecture and tram movement, while longer focal lengths create cinematic compression with people crossing through the scene.

If you want to get a higher perspective just walk into the Intercity Hotel and kindly ask if you could take a photo from the upper floors. There are windows on the sight of each one and if you are lucky a member of the hotel leave you inside the room for a quick nice shot.

In general: Getting here is very easy. Grunthalplatz sits directly outside Schwerin Hauptbahnhof and can be reached by regional and long-distance trains from cities like Hamburg or Berlin. From the station platforms, it is only a short walk straight onto the square.
