Germany Pink Lookup at Hallesches Ufer, Berlin
Organic Postmodernism: The Pink Courtyard Lookup
Photography Tips
Position yourself perfectly in the center of the inner courtyard to capture this surreal, eye-like slice of sky framed by the heavily curved pink balconies. An ultra-wide lens, such as a 12–24mm or 16–35mm, is absolutely essential here to fit the full sweep of the organic opening into a single shot without cutting off the distinctive wrought-iron railings.
Shoot with an aperture around f/8 to maintain edge-to-edge sharpness from the lowest balconies to the top of the roofline. Since you are aiming straight up, a tripod isn't practical and will only draw unwanted attention. Shoot handheld, and remember that this is a private residential complex. Keep an extremely low profile, respect the residents' privacy by keeping noise to an absolute minimum, and don't linger longer than necessary to nail the shot.
