Germany Zwillbrocker Venn
The Zwillbrocker Venn is a 200-hectare nature reserve on the German–Dutch border near Vreden. As part of the European Natura 2000 network, it is one of the most important peatland habitats in western Münsterland.
The reserve is best known for its wild flamingos. It is home to Europe's only and the world's northernmost breeding colony of flamingos, consisting mainly of Greater, Chilean and Lesser Flamingos descended from birds that originally escaped from zoos or private collections.
The area has been managed by the Biologische Station Zwillbrock for decades through extensive conservation measures. A six-kilometre circular trail with several viewing points allows visitors to experience its unique wildlife and landscapes without disturbing the animals.

Photography Tips
On weekends and during school holidays, the reserve can become quite busy, especially around the most popular viewpoints and photography spots.
Travel Information
The reserve is easily accessible from both the German and Dutch sides, with ample parking available. Reaching the best photography locations requires a walk of approximately 30 minutes, making the experience even more rewarding.
