Germany Elbe vom Herrenkrugsteg
The Herrenkrugsteg is a striking pedestrian and cyclist bridge in Magdeburg that beautifully connects the bustling Wissenschaftshafen with the lush greenery of the Herrenkrugpark. Standing on this bridge and looking in a northeasterly direction offers a magnificent, unobstructed view over the flowing waters of the Elbe river. The harmonious blend of the natural river landscape and the surrounding urban environment makes this a highly appealing location for landscape and cityscape photography.
Photography Tips
The elevated position on the bridge provides a fantastic vantage point right above the water. The absolute best time to photograph this specific scene is during sunset. As the sun goes down, the light reflects beautifully off the surface of the Elbe, creating a vibrant and atmospheric glow across the river landscape. Looking northeast allows you to capture the calm, winding flow of the water leading into the distance. Try experimenting with different positions along the railing to find the most balanced composition between the natural riverbanks, the sky, and the water.
Travel Information
Reaching the Herrenkrugsteg is very convenient, and there are excellent parking options on both sides of the Elbe. On the western side of the river, near the Wissenschaftshafen, there is a massive parking lot available with plenty of space. If you prefer to approach from the eastern side, you can find convenient parking right next to the Herrenkrug Parkhotel near the historic horse racing track. From either side, it is only a short, scenic walk onto the bridge to reach the perfect viewing spot.
