The Pferdetor is a stunning historical landmark situated in the expansive Rotehornpark, a massive and beautifully landscaped green space located on an island directly in the middle of Magdeburg. Originally constructed for the prestigious German Theatre Exhibition in 1927, this striking architectural gateway has recently undergone a complete and meticulous restoration, returning it to its original monumental splendor. The gate serves as a brilliant focal point in an area that is currently experiencing a massive revitalization, with iconic neighboring structures like the historic Stadthalle and the spectacular Hyparschale also undergoing comprehensive renovations. This unique blend of historic exhibition architecture and lush parkland makes it a highly compelling subject.

Photography Tips

The pristine, newly restored facade of the gate offers clean, sharp lines and rich details for architectural photography. Utilizing the approaching park walkways as natural leading lines can elegantly draw the viewer's eye directly toward and through the historic archways. The mature, towering trees of the surrounding park provide excellent natural framing opportunities to give your composition depth and a sense of scale. Early morning light works wonderfully here, as the soft sunshine illuminates the freshly restored masonry while capturing the tranquil, quiet atmosphere of the park before the daytime crowds arrive.

Travel Information

Reaching the Rotehornpark is incredibly straightforward, as the island is connected to the rest of the city by several bridges and is well integrated into the local transit network. There are multiple convenient parking areas available near the park entrances and the adjacent event venues. Because the park is so massive, it is highly recommended to plan plenty of time for your visit. Beyond the historical architecture, the island features miles of scenic walking paths, beautiful waterfront views, and several charming little cafes and restaurants where you can relax and spend hours enjoying the green heart of the city.
