Germany Chalk cliffs view near Piratenschlucht

This spot along the coast of Jasmund National Park offers a ground-level view of Rügen’s famous chalk cliffs. Walking along the rocky shoreline near Piratenschlucht gives you an up-close perspective of the towering white walls contrasting against the deep blue Baltic Sea and dense green beech forest above. It feels much more raw and adventure-focused than the official viewpoints higher up.

Composition: Get down low near the water's edge to capture the crashing waves over the pebble shore as a strong foreground. Look for overhanging tree leaves at the top of the frame to act as a natural vignette.

Gear: A versatile zoom (around 24–70mm) is ideal. A fast shutter speed helps freeze the water spray, while a ND filter allows for a long exposure if you prefer smooth, milky water.

Getting There: Start in Sassnitz and take the coastal trail walking north into Jasmund National Park toward Piratenschlucht. You can reach the beach via designated staircases along the route.
