Germany Kirchenruine Nordhusen

The Romanesque church ruin of Nordhusen is a striking historical monument located just outside Hundisburg in the Börde district. Standing solitary in the open landscape, this impressive stone structure is the surviving western cross-tower (Westquerturm) of a medieval village church that once belonged to the now-abandoned settlement of Nordhusen. Adding to its highly dramatic and picturesque setting, the ancient tower is perched directly on the western edge of a steep, water-filled former quarry (Steinbruchsee).
