Germany Seigerturm Stolberg
The Seiger Turm is a prominent historical landmark situated in the heart of Stolberg, an exceptionally picturesque medieval half-timbered town in the southern Harz region. Originally constructed prior to 1282, the tower functioned as part of an inner city gate protecting the bustling market square. Its robust lower section is built from original medieval rubble stone, while the striking brick upper structure and its distinctive domed roof with a double lantern were beautifully reconstructed in 1832. Named after a medieval smelting works (Saigerschmelzhütte) that once stood beside it, the tower serves as an incredible architectural centerpiece in a historic mining settlement that has proudly maintained its town privileges since before 1300.
Photography Tips
The narrow, winding streets of Stolberg, lined with beautifully preserved half-timbered houses, provide fantastic natural leading lines and organic framing opportunities for the Seiger Turm. Positioning yourself directly in the historic market square allows you to clearly capture the fascinating architectural contrast between the tower's ancient stone base and its 19th-century brick upper level. To add depth and variety to your portfolio, taking the short walk up to the nearby Schloss Stolberg is highly recommended; the elevated vantage point offers spectacular, sweeping views of the town's intricate historic rooflines with the tower perfectly nestled within the valley.
