Trusetal Waterfall (Trusetaler Wasserfall) is one of Thuringia's most picturesque waterfalls, located near Brotterode-Trusetal in the Thuringian Forest. The approximately 58-meter-high artificial waterfall cascades down a rocky hillside surrounded by dense forest.

While most visitors photograph the waterfall from its base or the staircase running alongside it, this perspective offers something different. Shot with a telephoto lens from the nearby parking area, the composition captures the waterfall, its wooden water channel, and the surrounding rock formations, all framed by autumn foliage.

Photography Tips

A telephoto lens is perfect for this perspective, letting you isolate the waterfall and compress the layers of rock, trees, and flowing water into one composition.

I particularly recommend visiting in autumn, when the yellow and orange leaves contrast beautifully with the darker rocks and white water. A faster shutter speed preserves the texture of the falling water, while a longer exposure creates a softer look

The great thing about this viewpoint is that you don't have to climb the stairs to capture an interesting composition. Experiment with different focal lengths to capture either the entire waterfall or specific details.

Travel Information

Trusetal Waterfall is near Brotterode-Trusetal in southern Thuringia and is easy to reach by car. A parking area near the waterfall offers a convenient starting point for photography.

For this particular perspective, you can photograph directly from the parking area using a telephoto lens. If you have more time, follow the staircase alongside the waterfall to discover additional viewpoints from different heights.

Keep in mind that the waterfall is artificially fed and operates seasonally, so check whether the water is running before you visit. Spring through autumn is generally best, with autumn offering especially beautiful colors for photography.
