The highest point of Santorini is not the crater rim, but the 567 m high mountain Profítis Ilías in the south of the island. This limestone mountain existed here already before the volcanic activity. At the top there is a magnificent view over the center and the north of the island.

At the summit stands Santorini's monastery of the prophet Elias with an idyllic garden and a relatively new chapel. From the garden, the view is to the southeast on the seaside resort Períssa and its beach.
