Greenland Kap Leslie, Scoresbysund

Kap Leslie, on the eastern side of Milne Land, is surrounded by the rugged geology and vast fjords that define this part of Scoresbysund. The waters around the cape can hold enormous icebergs, many with striking arches, layers and sculpted surfaces created as the ice slowly melts and breaks apart.

When launching from a moving sailboat, take off into the wind from a clear part of the deck and consider hand-catching when landing. And always keep a close eye on the wind and battery — flying away from a moving boat can quickly eat into your return time, especially in the unpredictable conditions around this fjord system.

Scoresbysund is one of the most remote places you can reach in Greenland. There are no roads or infrastructure here. The area is explored by sailing boat, smaller expedition vessel, kayak or multi-day guided kayak trips, with August to roughly mid-September being the best window to experience it. Just around 500 people coming per year.
